DCR | Watering eye
Watering and discharge from eyes due to blocked tear duct is a common problem of old age. Sometimes it can also affect children right from their birth. Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) is a surgery that creates a new path for tears to drain between your eyes and your nose. You may need this surgery if your tear duct has become blocked causing watering, discharge or repeated episodes of pain in the area surrounding your eyes. But neither every watering eye is because of blocked duct , nor everyone who has a blocked tear duct needs a DCR. The best treatment plan can be judged by an Oculoplastic Surgeon by proper examination and sometimes investigations. Here are a few cases of infants and adults treated by Dr. Gunjan Rathi Kelkar of watering eyes.

Ptosis correction | Droopy eye
Ptosis is the condition when the upper eyelid droops over the eye. The eyelid may droop just a little making the eye appear smaller, or so much that it can limit or even completely block normal vision. Children and adults both can have ptosis. Fortunately, this condition can be treated to improve vision as well as appearance. There are various surgeries that can be done for correcting ptosis depending on the severity of droop and the muscle strength. There are some cases where instead of surgery , medical treatment needs to be done. Dr. Gunjan Rathi Kelkar is specialised in these surgeries. Here are a few cases and the results post operatively.

Artificial eye
An ocular prosthesis, artificial eye or glass eye is needed when a person either loses his/her eye or the eye shrinks due to tumour/injury/infection or developmental malformation since birth. Dr. Gunjan Rathi Kelkar specialises in these fittings. The artificial eye is customised according to your socket size, shape and other eye colour to provide you the best cosmesis, comfort and eye movements. Blepharoplasty | Loose eyelid skin
Blepharoplasty is a type of surgery that repairs loose or sagging eyelid skin involving removal of excess skin, muscle or fat from the lids. As you age, your eyelids stretch, and the muscles supporting them weaken. As a result, excess fat may gather above and below your eyelids, causing sagging eyebrows, droopy upper lids and bags under your eyes. Besides making you look older, severely sagging skin around your eyes can reduce your side vision (peripheral vision). Blepharoplasty can reduce or eliminate these vision problems and make your eyes appear younger and more alert. Oculoplastic Surgeons are specialised in treating these conditions.

Entropion | Inturned eyelid
Entropion is a condition in which your eyelid turns inward causing your eyelashes and skin to rub against the eye surface. This causes irritation and discomfort. Left untreated, entropion can cause damage to the cornea, leading to eye infections and vision loss. Dr. Gunjan Rathi Kelkar has treated multiple patients with similar complaints. Here are some of those cases.

Ectropion | Out-turned eyelid
Ectropion is a condition where the lower eyelid droops away from the eye and turns outwards. The drooping eyelid can disrupt the drainage of tears, which can make the eyes sore, red, dry and irritated. If ectropion is severe and not treated, one can develop corneal ulcer leading to vision loss. Dr. Gunjan Rathi Kelkar is an expert in these surgeries. Below are some cases treated by her.

Tumours or masses of eyelid
Eyelid tumors are abnormal growths around the eyes that may be either benign or malignant. These may present as painless growth over the eyelid or may be accompanied by redness, pain, discharge, bleeding, loss of eyelashes, or erosion of the surrounding skin. Timely evaluation and treatment of these conditions is very important . Dr. Gunjan Rathi Kelkar specialises in treating these conditions. Here are a few cases with pre and post operative results.

Skin grafting | Scars around eyes
Sometimes due to trauma , burns or rarely due to some skin diseases skin around the eyes can get scarred. In some cases, this scarred skin pulls the eyelid away from the normal position causing dryness, redness discharge and sometimes eye infection and vision loss. This condition is treated by skin grafting in the scarred area. This is a complex treatment and is best treated by an Oculoplastic surgeon who is well versed with the area around the eyes. Here are patients of periorbital scars treated by Dr. Gunjan Rathi Kelkar.

Lid tear and canalicular repair | Injury to eyelids
Eye injuries are common in facial trauma cases. If eyelid tear is not repaired properly, it can give a poor cosmetic outcome, prominent scar marks might remain and patients can develop life long complaints of watering. Dr. Gunjan Rathi Kelkar has treated multiple such patients successfully. Here are some of those cases.

Injection Botox
Botox® is one of the most widely known brands of botulinum toxin injections. Botulinum toxins are neurotoxins that affect nerves and cause muscle weakening. The injection is used for medical and cosmetic purposes by injecting into the affected muscles for treating eye disorders, muscle stiffness/spasms, and wrinkles. Wrong doses or locations can lead to a range of complications ranging from drooping of eyelids, double vision or even weak facial muscles. Dr Gunjan has been trained in giving these injections. Here are a few of her treated cases.

Lagophthalmos | Inability to close eyes
The inability to close the eyes is called as lagophthalmos. It is a serious problem as it can lead to dryness of eyes further making the eyes prone to corneal ulcers and vision loss. Not all patients of lagophthalmos need surgery. Some can be treated medically as well. But it needs an expert to decide the treatment plan for such patients. Dr. Gunjan Rathi Kelkar is specialised in these surgeries and has treated multiple patients successfully. Here are a few of them.

Tumours and growths over conjunctiva
These are tumours that appear in the conjunctiva, which is the transparent mucous membrane that covers the eyeball. These tumours can be benign or malignant, pigmented or non-pigmented, and, in some cases, can threaten the patient's vision and life. Dr. Gunjan Rathi Kelkar is specialised in managing such cases. Here are a few cases treated by her.

Treatment of thyroid eye disease | Bulging eyes
Thyroid disorder is a very commonly known problem. But only some know that thyroid imbalance can also affect the eyes. It causes bulging of eyes, watering, redness and in severe cases pain, double vision, inability to close eyes and even vision loss. This condition needs long term treatment which should be started as early as possible to avoid complications and disfigurement of face. Dr. Gunjan Rathi Kelkar is specialised in treating these conditions medically and surgically.

Enucleation | Evisceration | Exenteration | Removal of eye
There are some conditions of the eye like tumours, trauma or infection when the eyeball might need to be removed. These surgeries are best done by oculoplastic surgeons. If not done properly, even with post surgical fitting of artificial eye, proper cosmesis cannot be achieved. Dr Gunjan Rathi Kelkar has done multiple such surgeries , below are a few.

Contracted socket management
A contracted socket is a complication of an anophthalmic socket which results in the inability to support a prosthesis also known as artificial eye. This is an uncommon yet significant problem. This condition requires surgical correction and is best treated by oculoplastic surgeons. Here are some cases treated by Dr.Gunjan Rathi Kelkar

Treatment of eyes affected by facial nerve palsy
Facial nerve paralysis is a condition when one half of the face gets paralysed and loose. These patients can suffer from inability to close eyes, watering from eyes, loose lower eyelid causing redness and dryness. In some cases, this can even lead to corneal ulcer amd vision loss. The treatment of this condition needs a team of specialists like Ophthalmologist, ENT surgeons and neurologists. Oculoplastic surgeons are specialised in the surgical repair of these eyes. Here are some of these patients treated by Dr. Gunjan Rathi Kelkar

Infections around the eye and orbit
The structures around the eye can be affected by various major and minor infections. Some of these can be vision or life threatening. Hence they need specialised care which is best provided by an Oculoplastic surgeon. Dr. Gunjan Rathi Kelkar has successfully treated multiple such patients.

Tumours or masses of the orbit or eye socket
Tumours can occur in the structures of the orbit or the eye socket. These tumors can range from harmless to potentially life-threatening, and may cause vision loss, loss of the eye or in some unfortunate cases loss of life as well. Hence these need to be treated by experts so that the best treatment can be provided at the earliest to the patient. Dr Gunjan specialises in these cases. Here are a few of the cases treated by her.
